Reviews
I love WIC, it is an amazing program. It has helped me greatly with my son. I just moved here with my son and my benefits ran out about 2 months ago. When I first got here no one ran the salida office, and I could never get a hold of the BV office. The receptionist was even having a hard time transferring me. I am a little upset that the hours are 8-4:30 as I am a working mother and I work 8-5. Is there anything that I can do to help me get back on WIC when the hours of operation are during my work schedule?
I appreciate the work WIC does to support mothers and children in this community and recognize how big of a job that is. I am concerned, however, at some of the nutritional advice i am starting to hear from young mothers - specifically regarding breastfeeding and what is safe for infants. I was startled to learn that mothers are being encouraged by WIC employees to provide plain water to infants younger than 6 months. This is not appropriate and contradicts the recommendations of every pediatric institution of health which all recommend exclusive breastfeeding until at least 6 months and to not give plain water to an infant. Please review these recommendations and ensure that staff are educated on these points. Thank you so much!!
