Women, Infants and Children (WIC) is a nutrition program that helps mothers and young children stay healthy and eat properly. WIC helps women, infants and children during times of important growth and helps women and children get the nutrition services and foods that they need to stay healthy. The WIC program serves eligible women who are breastfeeding, pregnant or have just given birth, infants less than one year old, and children less than five years old.
WIC provides:
Nutrition education. Private and group sessions with a nutrition expert. Support and help with breastfeeding. Referrals to other services that can help you and your family (e.g. immunizations, health care, dental care). Healthy recipes. Access to healthy foods. To be eligible for WIC you must: Meet categorical eligibility which includes: infants from birth to age one, children up until they turn five, and women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have just given birth. In addition, you must be a Virginia resident, be financially eligible, and be at nutritional risk.

Resource Mothers. The Resource Mothers program is a free home visiting program for pregnant and parenting teens. Resource Mothers (RM) are lay community health workers who mentor pregnant teens through this difficult time in their lives and help them transition to parenthood. RMs can help teen keep medical appointments, stay in school or continue working, early childhood education and safety and resolve day to day problems. In addition, a RM can help a teen get needed services, such as prenatal and pediatric care, Medicaid/FAMIS, WIC and food stamps, housing and job placement, and classes on Teen Pre-natal Care, Car Seat Safety and obtaining a GED.
Resource Mothers provide ways to achieve good pregnancy outcomes.
RM provides the following services:
Care coordination pre-natal/pediatric, Support Activities/Training, Baby Care, Pregnant women at high risk of poor birth outcomes need a variety of services to ensure they have healthy babies and the tools to become good mothers. They may need transportation, prenatal care, medication, nutritional counseling, substance abuse treatment, smoking cessation classes and child development education. It is often difficult for women to receive the level of care they need when these services are offered by many different community organizations.
BabyCare provides pregnant women with the support and services needed through intensive case management and coordination of care. The program aims to improve birth outcomes by ensuring pregnant women and infants receive all the services they need.
To be eligible for BabyCare you must:
Meet low income guidelines
The Official WIC program is available to low to moderate income pregnant women, recently delivered women, breastfeeding women, infants, and children up to age 5 who are at nutrition risk. Fathers can also bring their children to apply for WIC. You may apply for WIC if you are working or unemployed. Check the Income Guidelines Table to see if you are eligible for WIC. This website was created for women looking for WIC information and locations. We are also working towards adding other locations and services that may help out women.

I had my baby on a later day than her expected due date. WIC called me a couple days later and asked me what kind of formula my baby was on I told them that we were actually still in the hospital and before I could even finish talking the lady goes "why? did you not have the baby?" my baby was kept in the hospital for a week due to her not eating. I had my baby on a Monday and they didn't start eating until that Thursday. Why would your first question be "did you not have the baby?" people have to keep the baby in the hospital for all kinds of reasons. They are always rude when they have to talk to you as well.
When arriving at an 11:00am appointment at 11:00am I was asked to sign in and hit the button and the person I needed to see was with someone else. I then signed in when I noticed I was the first to sign in and then pressed the button on the sign. I noticed the female I ended up meeting with leaving the building and around 11:50am another person came in and was told the same thing about signing in. A few minutes after 12:00pm 2 employees came in with there lunch and the one I ended up meeting for the appointment was joking about needing some wic and a tb shot. She then came out and called for the other person who signed in well after I did and looked at the sign in sheet and asked me if I was here for the wic. I said yes and she asked if I hit the button. I said yes again and she took the other person on back which signed in well after I did.
